About the course

Our accredited course provides trainees with an introduction to the Forest School ethos and learning outdoors.

Exact dates: 27th & 28th March 2025.

* Please note - those who complete their Level 1 Course with us are eligible for a £100 discount on their Level 3 FS Leader Course.

Unique Selling Points of our Level 1 course: 

• 2 days of practical/in person learning.

• Observing a real life early years Forest School session.

The course will cover: 

• The principles, concepts and practices of the Forest School ethos.

• Basic practical woodland skills. 

• Methods of identifying woodland species. 

• Understanding hazards and risk management.

• Exploration of the importance of play, creativity, and child-centred approaches in Forest School activities.

• Completion of a portfolio (explained during your practical days, but completed post-practical days).

It is designed to meet the needs of teachers, youth workers, students, those interested in the ethos and those preparing for further development and study to becoming a Forest School Leader.  

What we will need in advance:

• Proof of identification.

• Evidence of DBS check - be in the certificate itself, evidence of submission of check (if you have not yet received your certificate), or confirmation from your organisation that they have received it as part of your employment.

What will I need for the course?

The course will be predominately outside so please make sure you bring the following with you each day:

• Packed lunch, water and snacks.

• Suitable outdoor clothing for weather conditions.

• Suitable trainers or outdoor boots. Please do not wear sandals.

• A camera can be useful for recording some of the activities.

• Notebook and pen.

There are no entry requirements for this Level, anyone can join!

Self funded: self-funded trainees can pay via 3 direct debit payments. The initial £115.00 payment is a non-refundable deposit, followed by 2 monthly payments of £57.50.
